The End Of A Glorious Summer, I Am Full Of Gratitude, And Speak From My Heart!
What a glorious summer it has been. I want to take time before the days slip quietly into fall to express my gratitude for the wonderful things that this summer has brought. The idea for expressing gratitude came a few days ago when I ate my last eggs from my two chickens. The summer has been a miracle of sorts for my girls, as I affectionately call them. This has been their fourth summer and I really didn't expect anymore egg production from them. In fact, they hadn't been laying for about 10 months. I was simply enjoying them. Then that miracle happened, the one that I am so grateful for, the one that inspired this post, they started to lay eggs for me again. It has been a wonderful summer full of beautiful, delicious eggs. Reflecting on this miracle, as I ate my last omelet, made me think about all the glorious events of the summer and all that I am grateful for. Here is my list in no particular order. The incredible amount of sunshine and warmth that made for the most perfect few months and not having to turn on the air conditioner. Just enough rain that I didn't have to water too much. The abundance of tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, swiss chard, celery, cucumbers, and zucchini from the garden. The appearance of a turkey family who decided to stay for awhile. Lunches and coffee dates with my girlfriends who always made me laugh. Having coffee outside almost every morning with my dogs, chickens, and all those fabulous birds always singing. The coming back to life of my fig tree, who I thought I had lost during the winter. The many lessons that I learned in running an online store and a physical store both at the same time (most times very hard lessons, but all worthwhile). The new customers that I met, seeing those that are only here for the summer, and the ones that I see every week that keep my store open. The gorgeous sunsets I enjoyed while drinking a glass of wine. The many ice creams that I ate and the beautiful walks that I took. I certainly had a few bad days, but really, when I look back I feel like the luckiest girl in the world and one who has hit the karmic jackpot! I look forward to the fall, but I don't think that I will ever forget this summer, all thanks to two wonderful and zany chickens. Gratitude puts life into perspective......C'est Ma Vie!
