Happy Monday!  The weekend was fabulous but honestly, I was dying to get back to work.  This week's sale item is the Chemex Coffee Maker, coming in a 3 cup and 6 cup size.  If you are looking for the most amazing cup of coffee, you need to try the Chemex.  I call it the American version of the French Press, only without the press!  On the website I have included a link to my favorite short youtube video on how to use the Chemex.  It is what I use every morning!  Our Gluten Free Eating Series continues this Thursday, the 23rd, so if interested there is still room.  I am hosting Cake Baking 101 this Saturday, the 25th at 6:00 pm.  Look for a growing list of cooking classes as we head into July!  Now on to the cake.  It is an Ambrosia Cake and boy did it bring back childhood memories of summer!  Yummy, yummy, yummy! Please remember that the store is open, it just works a little differently! Herbs, spices, salts, pepper, olive oil, and vinegars are still available. A salad spinner is a simple essential in my kitchen and especially this time of year.  I am using it almost everyday.  With the warmer temperatures approaching quickly, I am trying to take full advantage of the lettuce in the garden before it starts to fade away.  I am using the salad spinner as an introduction to the store's new "Weekly Sale".  Each week a particular item will be on sale, which of course, will be something that I am using a lot of in the kitchen.  If a salad spinner is on your list, it is 20% off until Saturday, June 11th.  In other news, our cooking classes are heating up.  Along with The Gluten Free Eating Series, a Sunday Dinner With Karen, featuring homemade ricotta and crostatas, has been added for June 12th, and Baking Cakes,101 for June 25th.  If there is a particular cooking class that you would like to see added just let us know.  Ciao for now, Karen

Blueberry Muffins.....an all time favorite in my house!  I took a favorite recipe and changed it up, so I hope that you enjoy!  Next week there will be a cake and it is a special one so stay tuned.  News on the store front...things are settling in and a new routine is being established, thank goodness!  On-line ordering with local pick-up is starting to pick up, so do not hesitate to call with that last minute item or spice that you may need.  The new phone number is posted, 203-421-6994.  The old number is still being forwarded, but that is only for the next couple of weeks.  Please pass the new number along to friends and family.  Many have asked when a new location will open and where it will be.  It will be local, but the timing is a little bit different than originally thought. For me, June brings a Marine graduation and a second Naval Graduation.  The first week of July brings a wedding and all of those festivities, so opening a new store would be a bit of a challenge. Look for sometime in late July or August for an announcement.  In addition to our Eating Gluten Free Series, a Cake Baking Series is in the works, along with an Eating Garden To Table Series.  Look under "Upcoming Events" for details in the coming days.  Ending on a random note, the lilacs have been beautiful and plentiful this year.  Please stop by and pick some, they are just too wonderful not to share.   Karen

A treat for Mom and the cake recipe that I promised!  Champagne and a raspberry mascarpone cream frosting make an unbelievable combination!  A perfect cake to honor all mothers on Mother's Day!  A second newsletter this week but a necessary one.  A lot of events are scheduled and I just wanted to get the word out!  Next week is a busy one. First, Wednesday the 11th starts with Energy Centering at 10:00 am and that evening brings are first Evening With An Empath at 6:30 pm.  Thursday, May 12th is our first in a series of Dinner And A Movie, featuring the movie Chocolat.  Our Gluten Free Eating evening was a great success and we have set the dates for the 3 part series, the first date, May 26th!  More details about each event can be found under "The Local Store" and "Upcoming Events" on the site or just click the link and go from there Upcoming Events

Happy Tuesday Everyone!  Did you know that those beautiful violets that grow wild all over your yard make a wonderfully sweet addition to any salad?  Cut a bunch, throw them in and experience a unique flavor.  It is like tasting, not just viewing, a field of wild flowers.  On to other things...the Guilford Store officially closed last Friday.  I want to thank everyone for coming by.  If there was a word to describe being sad, happy, excited, and grateful all at the same time that would sum up how I have been feeling about the whole transition and move.  All went smoothly and I am back to my cooking, blogging, shipping and all the things that running a store entails. New phone numbers are being set up, inventory is being taken, and orders are being placed.  Wildflower Foods herbs and spices are all set up and ready to go.  All it takes is a quick phone call. A phone number is in the process of being assigned but until then please use 203 494 3802 if you have any questions or would like to place an order.  Last week's Gluten Free Eating With Rebecca Bunting went great!  We are going forward with the series so look for dates in next week's newsletter.  Energy Centering is continuing on Wednesdays at 10:00 am, only the location has changed.  Call 203 494 3802 for more information.  May 12th we have scheduled an event called "Dinner And A Movie".  A fun evening of talking about a movie and some cooking, book club style!  Look under store events for more information.  Popover pans are back in stock!  Don't forget that Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 8th!  Free local pick up is set up on the shipping page and I am working on getting the gift certificates up and running.  Thank you for your patience and kindness during this whole transition! Happy Monday morning!  There are only 5 days left that the Guilford Store location will be open!  Friday, April 29th will be the last day.  Items are 40% - 50% off.  Cash or a check are preferred!  The on-line store is always open.  I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that during the transition and after May 1st, purchases can be made on-line and can be picked up in Madison or delivered locally.  There is no need to worry if you need a ramekin or cheesecloth right away, it will be available for immediate pick up. The same goes for herbs and spices!  You can call ahead and I will have everything packaged and ready to go.  I know that it might take a bit to get used to, but I am confident that everything will run smoothly!  Now on to something fun, events and coffee!  A reminder about our Gluten Free Eating event on this Thursday, April 28th at 6:30 pm. Call the store at 203 458 7700 for location and directions!  Coffee is a passion of mine and I would be lost without my Chemex in the morning! There is something magical about how it makes a cup of coffee.  I call them the American French Press.  It operates as a simple pour over style coffee maker with fabulous filters that allow for no coffee residue at the bottom of the pot or your cup!  A must try for people who love their morning cup of coffee!  I have the 3 cup and 6 cup in stock, with a great supply of filters. Popovers, a wonderful treat and one of the most popular pans in the store.  On my recipe blog, apassionforcooking.com, I have a simple and delicious recipe that would be a perfect Mother's Day surprise!  The moving sale is going well.  It has been fun seeing customers that I haven't seen in awhile and some new faces too!  Items storewide are 30% to 50% off with a few 75% off items thrown in.  Selection is still very good, so I urge you to stop by and check things out.  We are still doing our Wednesday Energy Centering at the store, and we have a great group attending our Eating Gluten Free Event on Thursday, April 28th.  A new series is starting, Thursday, May 12th.  It is called Dinner And A Movie!  It will work like a book club, where a movie is chosen and a dinner is prepared around the theme of the movie.  There will be no pressure to watch the movie.  It is all about having fun with food, drink, friends, and the gathering of a few recipes.  I can't wait!  I hope everyone is spending time outside, soaking in the sunshine, planting their lettuce, spinach, and kale.  I know that that is what I have been doing in my spare time! WE'RE MOVING AND GOING IN A NEW DIRECTION! What does this mean for everyone, a storewide 30% off sale for the Guilford Store, starting today!  There are some restrictions, but very few.  Why the change, it's time and I have been thinking about it for quite awhile now. This is what I know for sure about the time frame for the move. The Guilford Store will be concluding on or soon after May 1st.  All events scheduled are still scheduled but the venue has changed to my home where I have had events before and what will now become the headquarters for my on-line business and Wildflower Foods.  It is so exciting for me to make this change.  I want to take the time to focus on closing the Guilford Store and getting the events and on-line business settled in its new address before moving The Kitchen Store to a new location. In my many years on this beautiful planet I have learned that with patience the powers that be lead you to the perfect place and in the perfect time.  I am going on faith that all will present itself at the perfect time. Upcoming and ongoing events are still happening. Energy Centering is every Wednesday at 10:00 am and we have an upcoming series starting Thursday, April 28th called Gluten Free Eating With Rebecca Bunting, which will take place not at the store but at my home in Madison.  More information will come and more events will be announced.  A quick note about anyone having a gift certificate....if you do not have a chance to stop by the store, after May 1st, they will be redeemable on the on-line store.  Also, our knife sharpening services will continue, just at a new location.  Ciao for now and I will keep you informed!  I ask for your kindness and patience as we adapt to all the changes that are happening!  Karen

Colanders have been a topic of conversation not only at the store this week but in my kitchen and the kitchen of friends as well.  Old ones, new ones, colorful ones or not, colanders are coming out of storage and are back in vogue.  I love the ones that are available in the store.  They are colorful and come in varying sizes.  In other news, starting tomorrow, every Wednesday we will be offering an Energy Cleansing session at the store.  The time is 10:00 am and the session is about 15 or 20 minutes, depending upon the size of the group.  It is something that I practice and look forward to everyday. I invite everyone to join us, even just to observe.  Looking forward to next week's newsletter, we are arranging a discussion group at the store centered on gluten free cooking and baking with Rebecca Bunting, a local artist who has been cooking and baking gluten free for years, so stay tuned.  That is it for us this week, but some boxes have just arrived from FedEx with something new!  I look forward to sharing or just stop by the store and check things out!  Karen

Well, the week has flown by with a lot of unpacking and rearranging things in the store.   A tool that has been getting a workout in my kitchen and most requested at the store this week has been the julienne peeler, pictured above.  It is such a great way to cut carrots, cucumbers, and radishes to add to a salad or to make a quick coleslaw.  There are a lot of popular items back in stock as well, such as salad spinners, fish turners, potato ricers, and my favorite thermometers!  The planting has begun in my garden. Peas and beans are in! I hope everyone has noticed that the buds are starting to appear on the trees, a sure sign that the beautiful weather isn't far behind! As fun as March has been, I am excited for the arrival of April!  The store will be branching out with some different events and offerings. From a weekly energy centering, to cookbook discussions, to food workshops and more! Stay tuned, more will come as events unfold. A thought for the week, as doors close, others open! Happy Saint Patrick's Day!  The store has been busy with people getting ready for Easter and just cleaning house, replacing their spatulas, wooden spoons and bakeware. There have been a few new arrivals, including a new digital scale, the restocking of Caldrea cleaning products, an all-time store favorite, and a new vintage cookbook section has been born.  Customers are replenishing their wine and table glasses, ramekins and au gratin dishes. I have been busy rearranging the store.  At home, spring cleaning and getting my gardens ready have been on the agenda.  An hour or so every morning can really make a difference.  Saint Patrick's Day always signifies the time to plant peas, lettuce, kale, and spinach, but snow is in the forecast for Sunday, so I might just wait a few extra days!  A few suggestions for Easter and hostess gifts this spring are pictured.  I love the ceramic measuring cups.  They can be filled with candy or tucked in an Easter basket and can be used as prep bowls as well. The garden bunny tray with matching napkins is just wonderful!  There are even paper placemats that match too! Customers love to give tea towels, Wildflower Foods herb samplers and coffee samplers as gifts as well.  As promised, a baking tip, using a kitchen scale to measure baking ingredients makes such a huge difference in your baking that I was truly amazed. My cakes have been coming out lighter and higher than ever before.  A thought for the week, all about having your cake and eating it too.  Don't ever fret over having that piece of cake, just make sure that it is a darn good piece!   Karen

Spring is in the air as temperatures are rising and March keeps marching forward toward that beautiful time of rebirth and renewal.  After a long winter, the store is alive with color, fun and enthusiasm.  Spring patterns are in for paper napkins, linens, pot holders and mitts. Pomegranate Linens have added some new french patterned tableclothes that are just beautiful.  The spatulas that I adore are back in stock, along with colorful colanders and even biodegradable pots for planting herbs and flowers.  The bakeware section is stocked and ready for holiday baking.  We are now carrying locally roasted coffees, paella rice, and Italian 00 flour along with our ever growing selection of herbs, spices, and blends. Things are getting exciting here at The Kitchen Store with the coming of the warmer weather.   Look out for new arrivals, spring recipes, cooking tips, and what can be growing in your garden, right now.  The time is coming for planting peas, kale, spinach and lettuce.  We have added some fabulous services, including Renewing Your Kitchen, Healing Energy Work, local delivery, and coming soon, Gift Registry and not just for the bride and groom!  A thought for the week...To live one's truth is to truly live!
